The Centre for Public Health Law is organising a Double credit course on International Right to Health by Mr Anand Grover, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India from 6th August to 12th September, 2021. Mr Grover was the UN Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health (Right to Health) by the UN Human Rights Council from August 2008 to July 2014.

The course focuses on the development of an international right to health from various human rights treatises.?It then discusses the interplay and implications of such a right on other crucial issues like:

  • The HIV/AIDS movement and Vulnerable groups,
  • The impact that TRIPS and IPR have on access to medicine,
  • The impact of other free trade agreements and ISDS on access to medicine,
  • The COVID-19 Pandemic and Responses to it.

The course has been uniquely designed in terms of pedagogy which is learner centric. Class engagement, debate and discussion are encouraged throughout the course. Students will be asked to examine, reflect on, and critique public health and economic strategies through the right based approach to health.

We have received a tremendous applause from the student’s currently enrolled in the course. They appreciate the dialogue based learning which provides equal platform to everyone to share their experiences and learn from it. Consequently, since the beginning of the course from August 6, we have been receiving a lot of queries and requests to open the course for law teachers, non-nluo students, researcher scholars, doctors, lawyers, public health practitioners and various other interested people. It has therefore been decided by the Vice-Chancellor, NLUO, Prof Ved Kumari and Mr. Grover to allow a limited number [15] of interested candidates join mid course on first come first serve basis.
