“The Centre for Women and Law will be organising a workshop on ‘Anti Sexual Harassment Law and Policy’.”

About the workshop:

On 5th?ebruary, 2022, the Centre for Women and Law at NLUO will organise a workshop on ‘Anti Sexual Harassment Law and Policy’ from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

The workshop’s objective is to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including members of the Gender Sensitization Committee (GSICC), the Supreme Court of India, members of the Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs), and staff and students at NLUO.?The objectives of the workshop can be summarized as:

  • to educate participants about the issue of workplace sexual harassment of women;
  • to impart working knowledge of the Sexual Harassment Act, 2013;
  • to assist participants in comprehending the legal position on the subject and how to handle sexual harassment complaints.
  • to familiarise them with the structure and operation of GSICCs and ICCs,
  • to detail the procedure that the GSICC and ICCs will follow when dealing with such complaints, and
  • to ensure that faculty, staff, and students understand the mandatory provisions of the Sexual Harassment Act in order to foster a positive work environment and society at large.

Profile:?em>Dr. Anindita Pujari is an Advocate on Record of the Supreme Court of India?/em>&?ember, Gender Sensitization Committee (GSICC), Supreme Court of India? She holds a PhD from the Jawaharlal Nehru University. She has been involved in a number of supreme court landmark cases involving among other things constitutional issues, the relationship between the judiciary and the executive, gender issues and interstate water conflicts. She is currently the General Secretary of the Bar Association of India, and has, among other things written about the history of Indian lawyers’ associations.

 

  1. Ms. Clara D’Souza, Social Activist & Member, ICC, NLUO

Profile:?em>Ms. Clara D’Souza?/em>graduated from Andhra University and then studied LLB from Sambalpur university.?She worked with Majlis, Legal?enter, Mumbai, and?uman Rights Law Network (HRLN) Delhi and Cuttack. She worked with Prajwala on a project as a coordinator – Capacity building of duty bearers (Judicial officials, Prosecuting officials, Labor officials, CWCs, and CSOs) for preventing and combating Human Trafficking in Odisha (phasesd out in december -2021). Presently she is?ssociated with Balasore Social Service Society and took up human rights?ases in the High Court of Orissa. She has to her credit the judgement of HC Orissa on Transgenders live-in -relationship.

 

  1. Ms. Dharitri Patnaik, Social Worker & Member,?ICC, NLUO.

Profile:?em>Ms. Dharitri Patnaik Dharitri has a Masters in Social work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University, USA. She has more than twenty four years of experience working to empower some of the most vulnerable sections of the society, including women, children, and underprivileged people of India. She has worked with global institutions like UNICEF, ActionAid International, CARE USA, UN Women, Water Health and Bernard van Leer Foundation globally, and most recently a deep engagement with many states in India, beginning with Odisha. She is the founder of Humara Bachpan Trust – which works with people living in poverty spread over multiple cities and villages and SAMBHAVI – an initiative towards Women’s empowerment with enterprise and employability. Ms. Dharitri has been felicitated by Ministry of MSME, Govt of India for being a successful woman entrepreneur and mentoring other women. She was also awarded the John Kenneth Galbraith Fellowship in Harvard.
